As I pull out of the driveway and down the street I can pretend.
When I glance back she’ll have trotted along the fence following the car to the edge of the yard and is still watching though she is only a speck in my mirror.
As I drive home I can pretend.
She’ll be the first to hear me pull in and be there at the door adding her husky, old-dog, piping bark to the canine chorus.
In the evening when I am getting dinner together I can pretend.
She’ll thump her tail gently, always greeting me from her cozy spot under the table, reminding me she is there and happy to taste-test anything that might require a second opinion, even if it is a not-too-fussy-canine opinion.
When I come home from training with the boys I can pretend.
She’ll battle her way unsteadily through the flurry of tails to greet me, never them, they are inconsequential compared to her person.
After poop patrol and yard duty I can pretend.
She’ll be there waiting at the top of the stairs, smiling that special smile, telling me she missed me even if it was only for a five minute parting.
As I write this I can pretend.
She’s lying at my feet or at my side, always loving, her eyes never looking through me or around me only at me, for me.
As I put the rambunctious boys out for their evening pee I can pretend.
When I turn around she’ll be lying upside down against the wall, wagging her tail madly and laughing at me with her eyes, waiting for me to help her get up so she can pretend to go out for a pee too.
When I close my eyes I can pretend.
That when I open them she’ll be chuffing and dancing on her little front feet, happy as always just because....
Until I write this I can pretend.
She’s not gone.
Now it is written and I can no longer pretend.

My sweet little redhead, no dog has ever loved me more. I was forever hers from the moment I looked down into that bright little face and those eyes! Now I have to pretend there is no hole inside…..

She was owned and loved by Aileen Murray.
She says: "She was absolutely the sweetest most loveable dog I have ever had!
My little redhead was queen of the household!
I totally adored her."

We had some wonderful weather at the beautiful shows of SD&G and Cornwall (2005)...... our little redhead glowed in the sun and after taking reserve a couple of times she finally did it..... Mara got her Championship...... now it's on to the obedience ring!
